The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released a video depicting a large group of men enjoying beer and music on a boat, sparking controversy over the location being a ferry in Varanasi along the Ganga River. Criticizing the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh, the party raised concerns about the incident.
The video, which emerged on April 6, has faced backlash due to the sacred status of the River Ganga in Hinduism. Calls for legal action against those involved have intensified rapidly.
Accusing the BJP of disrespecting Hindu religious sentiments, the AAP questioned whether the Varanasi authorities had authorized such events. Sharing the viral video, the AAP highlighted a DJ playing music on a boat in the Ganga River while people were drinking alcohol and recording videos.
The AAP raised doubts about whether the Uttar Pradesh government and Varanasi administration had sanctioned such liquor parties on the Ganga River.
In response to the viral clip, Varanasi police have initiated an investigation and filed a case regarding the boat party. Authorities are working to identify the individuals seen in the video, with at least one person reportedly arrested.
The video depicted members of Varanasi’s boatmen community participating in a floating procession as part of an annual ritual on April 5. In a separate incident last month, 14 Muslim individuals were arrested in Varanasi for allegedly holding an Iftar gathering on a boat in the Ganga and consuming chicken biryani.
