Jammu and Kashmir’s pace bowler, Auqib Nabi, is yet to make an appearance for Delhi Capitals in his debut Indian Premier League season. Despite being acquired for a significant sum of Rs 8.40 crore in the IPL auction, Nabi has not found a spot in the team’s lineup.
Nabi’s entry into the IPL followed an outstanding domestic season where he excelled in the Ranji Trophy, securing 60 wickets. His pivotal performance in the final match led Jammu and Kashmir to their first-ever Ranji title victory against a formidable Karnataka team.
However, despite his impressive track record, Nabi has not been fielded in the initial two games of the season for Delhi Capitals. The team’s bowling coach, Munaf Patel, explained that the challenge lies in fitting the talented bowler into the current playing XI.
Munaf praised Nabi’s work ethic and expressed the team’s intention to provide him with an opportunity in the IPL. He highlighted Nabi’s dedication by mentioning that while most bowlers typically bowl five to six overs during practice sessions, Nabi extends himself to bowl 10 to 12 overs, showing his commitment to improvement.
Munaf emphasized the disparity between domestic and IPL batting standards, noting that in the IPL, even good deliveries can be dispatched for runs. He assured that Nabi is being groomed to adapt to this higher level of competition.
Concluding the discussion, Munaf asserted that Nabi is prepared for match action and will be given his chance based on team dynamics. If the team opts not to utilize an additional batter as the Impact Player, Nabi could be included directly in the playing XI.
