A tragic incident at a water park in Brazil resulted in the death of a young lifeguard, identified as Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, aged 24. The unfortunate event occurred at Wet’n Wild water park in Itupeva, where Guilherme entered a pool to retrieve a tourist’s ring and got trapped underwater in the drainage system, leading to drowning as confirmed by the police report.
The incident transpired at the Water Bomb attraction, prompting concern among Guilherme’s colleagues when he failed to resurface. Following a rescue effort by other lifeguards who pulled him out and administered initial aid, emergency medical teams from the local health department were summoned to the scene.
Despite being rushed to Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital, Guilherme passed away shortly thereafter, according to reports from Sorocaba e Jundiaí. Wet’n Wild informed authorities that Guilherme had been with the park for over two years and had recently been promoted to a leadership role in October the previous year.
The company clarified that the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain and highlighted the hydraulic system’s use of side drains positioned away from the water slide exit and visitor departure points within the pool.
City hall affirmed that the park is fully compliant with all necessary regulations, stating that occupancy permits for each attraction are valid, along with the Fire Department Inspection Certificate. Meanwhile, Wet’n Wild announced the temporary closure of the park in a social media post and expressed ongoing support for Guilherme’s family while cooperating with the ongoing investigations.
Following necessary procedures, Guilherme’s body was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí before being laid to rest in Bragança Paulista.
