Spain Blocks US Military Aircraft Amid Iran Conflict

Must read

Spain has decided to block US military aircraft involved in actions related to the conflict in Iran from using its airspace, according to Defence Minister Margarita Robles. This decision expands on the previous denial of access to jointly operated military bases. The move aims to prevent military planes from transiting through Spanish airspace on their way to the Middle East, as reported by El Pais. Emergency situations are exempt from this restriction.

Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo stated that this decision aligns with the government’s stance against participating in or supporting a war deemed unilateral and in violation of international law. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has been vocal in criticizing the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, condemning them as irresponsible and unlawful.

US President Donald Trump has expressed concerns over potential economic repercussions due to Spain’s actions, threatening to cut trade ties with Madrid after access to military bases was denied for operations linked to the conflict. Despite the escalating tensions, Spanish officials maintain that diplomatic relations with the US remain stable.
