“Netanyahu: Israeli Forces Close to Eradicating Hezbollah in Lebanon”

Must read

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that Israeli forces were nearing Hezbollah’s stronghold in southern Lebanon, indicating the military was on the brink of eradicating the group’s presence in Bint Jbeil. Netanyahu stated in a video message that Israeli strikes against Iran-backed Hezbollah were ongoing despite mounting pressure for a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

“Our operations are actively targeting Hezbollah,” Netanyahu stated, emphasizing the current focus on dismantling a significant Hezbollah stronghold in Bint Jbeil, which he referred to as the group’s headquarters in southern Lebanon. He further mentioned that discussions with Lebanon had commenced, facilitated by Israel’s military strength, marking the first negotiations in over four decades.

Netanyahu outlined Israel’s objectives in the talks, highlighting the goals of pushing Hezbollah away from the border and establishing long-term stability. He emphasized the importance of achieving sustainable peace through strength and disclosed plans to bolster and expand the security zone in southern Lebanon, extending towards the slopes of Mount Hermon.

The recent escalation stemmed from US-Israeli strikes on Iran in late February, triggering regional tensions and reigniting hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Netanyahu affirmed Israel’s close alignment with the United States on Iran-related matters, underscoring shared objectives regarding Iran’s nuclear program and maritime routes.

While expressing caution about the future, Netanyahu acknowledged the uncertainties ahead and emphasized Israel’s readiness for any potential scenarios in the event of a resumption of hostilities.
