“TCS Scandal: Arrests Made in Nashik for Sexual Harassment and Conversion”

Must read

A significant scandal has unfolded in Nashik, Maharashtra, involving allegations of sexual harassment and religious conversion within Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) by female employees. Multiple FIRs have been filed, including one for rape, leading to the arrest of at least six individuals, with the BJP terming it as a case of “corporate jihad”.

The accusations in the FIRs revolve around molestation and attempts at conversion directed at women aged between 18 and 25 over a span of two to three years starting around 2022. Among those arrested are team leaders and engineers such as Asif Ansari, Shafi Shaikh, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Tausif Attar, and Ashwin Chainani. An HR official is also being sought by the police.

Allegations suggest that Muslim employees within TCS enticed young women with job prospects and higher pay, making them participate in religious practices like offering namaz and observing roza. TCS has emphasized its “zero-tolerance policy” and suspended the employees under investigation, although concerns linger over the handling of prior complaints to the HR department.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising a 12-member team led by an ACP-ranked officer is conducting a comprehensive inquiry utilizing technical and physical evidence. The case has sparked political reactions, with BJP staging protests demanding stringent action, while Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi criticized TCS’s response as inadequate.

TCS, in its statement, reiterated its commitment to employee safety and stated that the accused individuals have been suspended pending further investigation. The company’s Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, affirmed the seriousness of the situation and pledged cooperation with ongoing investigations to establish accountability.

The Nashik incident has elicited strong political responses, with BJP denouncing it as a case of “corporate jihad” and emphasizing the need for safeguarding IT employees. Meanwhile, concerns persist over workplace safety, internal grievance mechanisms, and the influence of religious coercion within corporate environments.
