Dalal Street Braces for Market Holiday on Good Friday

Must read

Dalal Street witnessed significant fluctuations recently as global cues influenced investor sentiment, leading to market movements. Traders faced uncertainty due to a series of holidays, including the upcoming Ram Navami holiday on March 26, which has shortened the trading week.

Investors might be curious about the market status for the day. Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed on April 3 in observance of Good Friday. This closure extends to all trading segments, such as equities, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, interest rate derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLBs), with no trading activities scheduled for the day.

Additionally, the commodity derivatives segment will be shut for the entire session. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will not conduct any commodity trading on this day.

Market operations on both the NSE and BSE will resume on April 6, Monday, marking the next trading session. Notably, major global markets are also closed for Good Friday, including those in the US, UK, and Europe. However, markets in China and Japan are open, while Hong Kong and Singapore markets are closed.

Prior to the holiday, Indian markets experienced a robust rebound, particularly in the IT sector, which bolstered the broader market sentiment. The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex both saw significant recoveries from their respective lows, closing higher for the day. Market volatility remains a concern, as indicated by the rise in India VIX, reflecting traders’ cautious approach amidst global uncertainties and market fluctuations.

Looking ahead, the 2026 market holiday calendar includes several upcoming holidays, with markets closed on specific dates throughout the year. Traders are advised to stay informed about these holidays and prepare for the next trading sessions accordingly, as market activities resume post the holiday period.
