Community Mourns Closure of Acclaimed Gluten-Free Café

Must read

An acclaimed B&B and café has shut down, dealing a significant blow to the local community. The closure of The Dove Inn, a gluten-free café and B&B in Alburgh, Norfolk, was announced by owner Sonya Resemblance, who cited the challenging location as the primary reason for the lack of foot traffic.

This closure adds to the mounting challenges faced by the pub and hospitality industry in the UK, with numerous establishments shutting down annually due to escalating costs and evolving consumer behaviors. Notably, the White Horse on London End in Beaconsfield recently closed its doors permanently, underscoring the industry’s struggles.

Despite being recognized as one of the top 50 cafés in the UK at the 2025 Small Business Awards shortly before its closure, The Dove Inn succumbed to the prevailing industry difficulties. Sonya Resemblance, who took over the inn in 2023, emphasized the business’s commitment to offering gluten-free menu options, catering to individuals with dietary restrictions.

Expressing gratitude to patrons, Sonya acknowledged the business’s efforts in creating job opportunities and fostering social spaces vital for mental well-being. However, she lamented the challenges of sustaining the business in its current location, ultimately attributing the closure to the unfavorable setting.

Following a prior warning about the business’s struggles amid broader economic pressures, Sonya confirmed the closure despite efforts by loyal customers to support the establishment. The announcement garnered an outpouring of supportive messages from the community, highlighting the impact of the closure on its patrons.
