A catering van at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport collided with a parked aircraft owned by the low-cost carrier IndiGo on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Bay No. 51 of the airport, resulting in minor damage to the aircraft.
Sources indicated that the collision occurred when the van unexpectedly moved forward after being started, leading it to hit the engine of the aircraft. Fortunately, no injuries were reported immediately following the incident.
IndiGo released a statement confirming the mishap, stating that a third-party unmanned vehicle on the apron had moved and made contact with their parked aircraft. The authorities have been informed, and the affected plane has been grounded for inspections and necessary maintenance before resuming operations.
The airline mentioned that the aircraft in question was set to operate a domestic flight from Kolkata to Guwahati under flight number 6E 6663. An alternate aircraft has been arranged to operate the flight while investigations into the incident are ongoing. IndiGo assured that they would collaborate closely with the authorities during the investigation process.
