“Husband Charged with Murder After Fatally Shooting Wife”

Must read

A man has made a court appearance following allegations of fatally shooting his wife in front of her children while she was trying to call the police. The victim, Jeri Mains, aged 44, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital after being shot in the driveway of a residence in southeast Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 28. Cecil Mains, her 47-year-old husband, has been formally charged with murder.

Reports from prosecutors indicate that Jeri’s children contacted emergency services, informing them that Cecil had shot their mother before fleeing the scene in his grey Toyota Tundra pickup truck. Cecil Mains, 46, was apprehended at a junction in southwest Indianapolis and taken into custody.

According to court records, the incident unfolded when Mains arrived at the residence earlier that day and retrieved a firearm from a safe. An altercation ensued between Cecil and Jeri upon her return home, and when their children intervened to stop the fight, Cecil allegedly shot Jeri twice.

The coroner’s examination revealed that the bullets had inflicted fatal wounds to Jeri’s heart, liver, and spine, leading to fatal bleeding. Jeri’s brother informed investigators that Cecil had a history of physical abuse towards her and had been expelled from the family home due to infidelity.

The family recalled previous threats from Cecil to harm the mother and other family members. Jeri’s daughter had even obtained a restraining order against her father on Christmas Day, just three days before the tragic incident. Court documents mention an episode on December 23 where Cecil, enraged by Jeri’s divorce request, threatened to kill both of them and caused injuries to Jeri’s arm on Christmas Day.

Upon his arrest, Cecil Mains declined to speak to law enforcement officers and promptly requested legal representation. He is being detained at Marion County jail without bail and attended a court hearing on Monday.

Following these events, a GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Jeri’s four children, aged 19, 17, 14, and 10. Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears expressed deep sorrow over the case, emphasizing the immense hardship faced by Jeri’s children after the tragic loss.
