A woman who purchased a lethal substance from Miles Cross revealed that had she not reconsidered, the substance could have tragically ended her life. Cross, aged 33, was recently sentenced to a 14-year prison term for selling harmful substances online that led to two suicides. He operated a scheme targeting vulnerable individuals on an internet suicide platform, where he provided a QR code for ordering a deadly chemical directly from him, with payments made to his bank account.
The woman, speaking anonymously, shared her experience, stating that when she bought the substance, she was feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed. She highlighted the emotional distress caused by the ordeal and emphasized the potential danger posed by such easy accessibility to harmful materials, expressing gratitude for her changed mindset that prevented a tragic outcome.
Gareth Evans, Assistant Chief Constable of North Wales, mentioned a victim who had purchased the substance from Cross but did not go through with taking her own life, feeling manipulated by him. Evans stressed the seriousness of Cross’s actions and urged individuals in similar situations to seek support from organizations like Samaritans rather than engaging with online predators like Cross.
Cross’s illicit business operation on the internet targeted vulnerable and mentally distressed individuals by offering a chemical through a QR code system for £100 per kit, resulting in two suicides. Police investigation at Cross’s residence uncovered quantities of the lethal substance and related items, linking him to the suicide forum, social media platforms, and bank transactions.
Although initially denying the accusations during police interviews, Cross eventually pleaded guilty in court to charges of encouraging or assisting suicide, acknowledging his involvement in the deaths of four individuals.
