“Nothing Emerges as Top-Growing Smartphone Brand in India”

Must read

India’s smartphone market is currently experiencing significant activity. While new launches are frequent, there is also a noticeable decline in demand. Counterpoint Research reports a 3% year-on-year drop in smartphone shipments in India during the first quarter of 2026, marking the weakest Q1 in six years. Amid this slowdown, some brands are quietly making strides, with Nothing being a notable example.

According to recent data, Nothing (including CMF) achieved a remarkable 47% year-on-year growth in Q1 2026, positioning itself as the fastest-growing smartphone brand in India. This growth can be attributed to the brand’s expanded offline presence and the opening of its first exclusive retail outlet in India, enhancing visibility and accessibility.

The success of Nothing is further fueled by its product lineup. The Phone 4a series, known for its unique design language, has garnered significant interest from users, particularly appealing to young consumers who appreciate innovative designs.

This growth reflects Nothing’s deliberate strategy tailored for the Indian market. During the launch of its Bengaluru flagship store, co-founder Akis Evangelidis emphasized the brand’s focus on community engagement and brand understanding rather than just sales, leading to increased acceptance and visibility among Indian consumers.

In a similar vein, Google is also capitalizing on the evolving dynamics of the Indian smartphone market, particularly in the premium segment. While Vivo, Samsung, and Oppo lead in terms of shipments, Google has emerged as the fastest-growing brand in India’s premium smartphone category (above Rs 45,000). This growth is attributed to Google’s Pixel lineup and its emphasis on AI-driven features.

Google’s success is not solely reliant on hardware or branding but also on its overarching strategy in India. The introduction of the Pixel Upgrade Programme aims to make premium devices more accessible by offering no-cost EMIs starting at Rs 3,333 per month, encouraging users to remain within the Pixel ecosystem.

Despite the individual successes of Nothing and Google, the broader smartphone market in India is experiencing a slowdown. Factors such as rising memory prices, currency fluctuations, and increased cost pressures have led to higher smartphone prices, particularly in the entry-level segment. This has prompted consumers to adopt a more cautious approach, holding onto their devices for longer periods due to extended software support and enhanced device durability.

In conclusion, while Nothing and Google are thriving in the Indian smartphone market, overall industry growth is tempered by various economic and consumer behavior factors.
