“Man Chokes to Death on Live Fish While Fishing”

A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district as a man lost his life when a live fish became lodged in his throat while he was fishing on Friday. The unfortunate event took place in Dighi village under Bangriposi police jurisdiction, with the victim identified as Abinash Bijuli, a local resident.

The sequence of events revealed that Abinash was fishing in a village pond that morning and had caught an ‘Indian Koi’ fish, known as a ‘Kau.’ In an attempt to secure the fish, he placed the live fish in his mouth. However, the situation took a fatal turn when the fish wriggled deeper into his throat, obstructing his airway. This resulted in Abinash choking and struggling to breathe.

Despite immediate efforts to help him, Abinash tragically succumbed to suffocation. The victim’s uncle shared, “A ‘Kau’ fish accidentally got stuck in my nephew’s throat while he was fishing at Digibandha today. We promptly took him to Bangiriposhi Medical, where the doctor’s conduct was harsh, refusing treatment and threatening to transfer him.”

This devastating incident highlights the dangers that can unexpectedly arise during seemingly routine activities. The community mourns the loss of Abinash Bijuli, emphasizing the importance of caution and awareness in all endeavors.
