Huawei is preparing to introduce a new wide foldable smartphone in China called the Pura X Max, designed in a book-style format. The launch of this device is scheduled for April 20, alongside the Huawei Pura 90 and Pura 90 Pro Max models. Teasers of the smartphone have already been circulating online, showcasing its unique narrow foldable design with a horizontal rear camera module resembling a pill shape.
In the rapidly evolving foldable smartphone market, Huawei’s early unveiling of the Pura X Max could potentially give the company a competitive edge, especially with Apple’s foldable iPhone generating excitement and the anticipated arrival of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 in July.
The Pura X Max boasts a design that combines elements of traditional flip-style and book-style foldables, offering a user-friendly experience for tasks like video streaming, gaming, and multitasking in landscape mode. It features a triple rear camera setup and a textured rear panel design inspired by the previous Pura X model. The smartphone incorporates punch-hole cameras on both its inner and outer screens, a flat frame, and initial images hint at a minimal display crease, pending full details at the launch event.
While detailed specifications are yet to be officially disclosed, leaks suggest the Pura X Max may sport a 7.69-inch internal display with WQHD+ resolution and a 5.5-inch cover screen. The device is likely to be powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset.
Pre-orders for the Pura X Max are already open, with multiple configurations available, including 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, a 16GB RAM/512GB Collector’s Edition, and a 16GB RAM/1TB Collector’s Edition. Expected color options for the smartphone include blue, white, orange, and black, while details on pricing and global availability are yet to be confirmed.
The Huawei Pura X, launched in China in 2026, features a foldable LTPO2 OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,500 nits peak brightness. It also includes a secondary 3.5-inch cover screen, powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB internal storage. The device’s camera setup comprises a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, a 40MP ultrawide camera, and a 10.7MP front camera. Additionally, it comes with a 4,720mAh battery supporting 66W wired and 40W wireless charging, along with reverse charging capabilities.
