Hardik Pandya will not participate in Mumbai Indians’ upcoming match against Delhi Capitals in Match 8 of IPL 2026 on Saturday, April 4, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Suryakumar Yadav will step in as the captain for the five-time champions in his absence.
Suryakumar, after losing the toss and being tasked to bowl first, disclosed that Hardik was indisposed, leading to his exclusion from MI’s first away game of the season. The team confirmed Hardik Pandya’s illness through a statement, announcing Suryakumar Yadav as the stand-in skipper for the match.
With Hardik Pandya sidelined, Mumbai Indians made changes to their lineup by bringing in Deepak Chahar and Corbin Bosch in place of Trent Boult. Additionally, Mitchell Santner replaced AM Ghazanfar in the spin department. Santner had previously missed the game against Kolkata Knight Riders for not joining the squad at that time.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals maintained their winning combination following their recent six-wicket triumph over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium. Mumbai Indians broke a 13-year winning drought by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in their first home game of the season at the Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar, who led India to T20 World Cup victory, has also captained MI in two IPL matches.
The playing XIs for the DC vs. MI match are as follows:
**Mumbai Indians**: Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton(w), Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Naman Dhir, Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell Santner, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah
