Shares of Jyoti CNC Automation faced a significant sell-off on Monday, dropping by approximately 14–16% during intraday trading due to investor reactions to developments concerning its foreign subsidiary. By 11:51 am, the stock had decreased by 113.15 points, equivalent to a 13.81% decline, trading at 706.05 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
The sharp decline occurred following reports that French authorities had commenced a judicial investigation into the company’s overseas arm, Huron Graffenstaden SAS, for suspected violations related to export control regulations. This investigation introduced a new level of uncertainty regarding the company’s international activities, leading to a substantial sell-off of the stock.
In a disclosure to the stock exchange, Jyoti CNC confirmed that French authorities had launched a formal judicial probe into the subsidiary and specific employees concerning export controls on dual-use machinery. The company mentioned that interim measures included constraints on the subsidiary’s director general, freezing of bank accounts amounting to approximately EUR 4 million, and the seizure of certain assets.
Despite these developments, Jyoti CNC aimed to allay investor concerns by asserting that the subsidiary had denied the allegations and planned to challenge them. The company also reassured that business operations at Huron Graffenstaden were ongoing as usual and anticipated no significant impact on its overall functions. Notably, more than 85% of the group’s revenue is generated by its Indian entity, reducing the potential financial repercussions from the subsidiary-related issues.
Nonetheless, investors expressed worries not only about immediate consequences but also about the uncertainty surrounding legal processes in foreign jurisdictions. The lack of clarity on timelines and outcomes has dampened market sentiment. The recent events exacerbated the existing downward trend the stock was experiencing, with Monday’s developments intensifying selling pressure as investors reevaluated risks in light of the new information.
While global market conditions have been challenging due to escalating geopolitical tensions and higher crude oil prices, the substantial decline in Jyoti CNC appears to be primarily driven by company-specific concerns. Moving forward, investors are likely to closely monitor any further disclosures from the company and seek clarification on the investigation’s status. Until additional details emerge, the stock’s sentiment may remain fragile, with continued volatility anticipated.
