Sam Locke, a rising actor from Merthyr Tydfil, is thrilled about his role in the upcoming dystopian horror film “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” despite battling a winter cold during our interview. Graduating just two years ago, Sam exudes enthusiasm for his second Hollywood movie. Set in a dark world inspired by Jimmy Savile, the sequel delves into the unsettling cult led by Jimmy Crystal, portrayed by Jack O’Connell.
Playing one of the “Jimmys” in the cult, Sam, 24, shares his excitement for this significant big-screen role. He expresses gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside A-listers like Ralph Fiennes, Cillian Murphy, Jack O’Connell, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, which boosted his confidence and performance.
In the film, Sam portrays Jimmy Fox, a member of Jimmy Crystal’s gang. His character evolves significantly from the first movie, blending eccentricity with intensity. Director Nia DaCosta’s emphasis on gore takes the film to a darker and more disturbing level, appealing to audiences seeking a grittier experience.
Reflecting on his journey, Sam discusses the physical demands of the role, from intense stunts to bonding with the cast during stunt training. He credits Jack O’Connell for encouraging him to infuse spontaneity into his acting, leading to a more dynamic performance.
Despite his quick rise in the industry since graduating, Sam remains grounded, appreciating the support of his friends and family. He shares his passion for nature and skateboarding, highlighting his love for outdoor activities and hiking.
Looking ahead, Sam plans to celebrate the film’s release with a premiere viewing alongside his partner and a friends and family screening. Excited to represent a Welsh voice in a major project, Sam anticipates a joyful celebration of his accomplishments and the film’s success.
