Anthony Joshua Considers Retirement After Tragic Crash

Must read

Anthony Joshua’s uncle has stated that the former world champion has informed his family of his intention to retire following a tragic car accident that resulted in the deaths of two close friends.

The fatal incident occurred when Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight world champion, was a passenger in a Lexus SUV involved in a collision with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos, Nigeria. The crash claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele, with their funerals taking place at a mosque in London.

Before attending the funerals, Joshua shared images on Instagram showing him with his mother and three other women, one of whom held a photograph of Ghami. The post was captioned ‘My Brothers Keeper.’

Reports indicate that Joshua is considering retirement after the tragic crash in Nigeria, with his family being informed of his decision in private. According to Adedamola Joshua, Anthony’s uncle, the family is relieved by the retirement news as they found it emotionally challenging to watch him fight in the ring.

Despite the claims of retirement in Nigeria, Mirror Fighting understands that Joshua has not yet made a final decision on his future in boxing.

The driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who was responsible for the crash, has been charged in court. Joshua, who received hospital treatment before being discharged, returned to the UK recently. Eyewitnesses described Joshua’s shock at the incident and how he was saved by changing seats in the vehicle.

Joshua had been in Nigeria following his victory over Jake Paul and was reportedly planning a future fight with Tyson Fury. However, the tragic accident has cast doubt on those plans. Frank Warren, a boxing promoter, expressed concern about Joshua’s mental state following the loss of his friends and injuries from the crash.

Joshua’s career as a professional boxer has been marked by significant victories and setbacks, including becoming a world champion, suffering defeats, and attempting comebacks. His recent defeat to Daniel Dubois ended his hopes of becoming a three-time world champion.
