The Punjab government led by the Aam Aadmi Party revealed on Friday that more than 65,000 government jobs have been offered in the last four years as part of an initiative termed the “Employment Revolution.” Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized these numbers, portraying the program as a significant move towards transparent and merit-based recruitment within the state.
As per information shared by the Punjab unit of the party, a total of 65,264 government positions have been filled across various departments without any reported corruption or bias.
The largest portion, consisting of 16,308 jobs, was allocated in the education sector, followed by 12,966 in the Punjab Police and 8,306 in the electricity department, the report stated. Additional recruitments encompassed 6,176 roles in health and medical education and 5,556 in local government bodies, among others.
Speaking to the press, Mann reiterated the government’s dedication to fair recruitment practices. The Chief Minister highlighted that the hiring process was conducted transparently, ensuring that candidates were selected based on merit rather than influence or monetary considerations, benefiting youth from both rural and urban areas.
Mann also mentioned that the initiative has encouraged young individuals to focus on local employment opportunities instead of pursuing overseas options or preparing for exams like the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Furthermore, the Chief Minister disclosed that age restrictions for various positions were relaxed by up to five years to accommodate candidates who missed earlier opportunities due to delays in previous administrations. He criticized past governments for prolonged and legally entangled recruitment procedures, which often resulted in applicants aging out of eligibility.
Drawing a contrast with previous administrations, Mann highlighted his government’s commitment to fairness and efficiency in recruitment processes. He noted that several candidates had progressed to higher positions after initially securing roles through competitive exams, illustrating a dynamic employment landscape.
The announcement is expected to be a focal point for the ruling party in future political discussions, underscoring their accomplishments in governance, particularly in job creation, as they gear up for upcoming electoral challenges in the state.
