A video circulating online appears to capture the moment when a man, reportedly identified as a Venezuelan immigrant by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), was shot in the leg by an ICE officer during a traffic stop in Minneapolis. This incident, occurring shortly after the tragic shooting of Renee Good, a mother of three, has sparked unrest in the streets of the city.
The man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was swiftly taken to the hospital after the shooting last night. A new online video reveals him screaming for help, as individuals inside a residence, speaking in Spanish, seem to be making a distress call to 911. They allege that ICE agents had been following the injured man for around 30 minutes before he reached his home.
According to reports, the involved agent allegedly attempted to shoot the man as he ran towards his house and even fired shots in the direction of the property where children were present.
Witnesses can be heard pleading for assistance, mentioning the presence of children inside the house and describing the events that led to the shooting. The DHS released a statement following the condemned incident, stating that the man had tried to evade a “targeted traffic stop.”
The department asserts that the man, believed to be in the US illegally from Venezuela, had been “released into the country by Joe Biden in 2022” and had crashed his vehicle into a parked car while attempting to escape arrest. The ICE agent allegedly shot the man out of fear for his safety during what was described as an ambush by three individuals.
After the shooting, the man and two other suspects reportedly fled into an apartment building. Both the victim and the alleged perpetrator were taken to the hospital, with the victim receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
