“Swiss Bar Owners Under Police Protection After Tragic Fire”

Must read

The Swiss bar owners, where 40 individuals lost their lives in a tragic fire incident on New Year’s, have been living under police protection, according to recent revelations. Jacques Moretti and his wife Jessica were provided emergency security due to escalating public outrage following the devastating event, which claimed the lives of 20 children, some as young as 14, and left 116 others injured. Mr. Moretti’s father, Jean, confirmed the security measures while defending his son and daughter-in-law, who are facing charges of manslaughter, bodily harm, and arson due to negligence.

Expressing his stance, Mr. Moretti Snr stated that although his son bears responsibility as the company owner, his guilt is yet to be determined, and they are prepared to face the justice system without evasion. He emphasized their integrity, expressing sorrow for the victims and their own losses, highlighting the emotional toll the tragedy has taken on the family.

Jacques Moretti was placed in pre-trial detention after being interrogated by prosecutors, while his wife Jessica, after questioning, was released. Mrs. Moretti, visibly distressed, conveyed her condolences and deep regret for the unimaginable tragedy that unfolded in their establishment, extending apologies for the devastating consequences.

The investigation into the fire’s origin points to champagne bottles with party sparklers triggering the blaze in the bar’s basement, potentially due to close proximity to sound insulation foam on the ceiling. Authorities are scrutinizing the roles of both the bar owners and officials, acknowledging the lapse in fire safety inspections since 2019. The tragic incident involved victims from 19 different nationalities, with 83 individuals still under medical care.

Survivors, including Marie Albrecht, Aline Morisoli, and Solal Heimendinger, delivered poignant speeches at a memorial service attended by around 1,000 people, evoking emotions and reflections on the harrowing experience. The young speakers highlighted the resilience of their generation, the need for unity, and the collective pursuit of a better future amidst the aftermath of the catastrophic event.

The service concluded with a moment of silence across Switzerland, paying tribute to the departed souls and offering solace to their grieving families and loved ones. President of the Valais State Council, Mathias Reynard, expressed solidarity with the bereaved, emphasizing remembrance and support for those affected by the tragic loss.
