Ricky Gervais, known for his humor, has announced his upcoming stand-up show will be named ‘Legend,’ jokingly implying that people should refer to him as such in the future regardless of what happens. This follows the success of his previous show, ‘Mortality,’ which topped the charts on Netflix and garnered millions of viewers after its release on December 30.
The renowned comedian, aged 64, shared his plans for the new show, stating, “I’m already gearing up for it. In case this turns out to be my final tour, I want it to be called Legend. It’s like I’m pre-determining my legacy – ‘he was known as a legend,’ no, he said that himself! The show will revolve around me, but of course, I’ll be poking fun at myself. It’s a humorous self-reflection.”
Gervais’ previous tour, ‘Mortality,’ spanned over 80 arena performances worldwide from 2024 to 2025, including iconic venues like LA’s Hollywood Bowl, NYC’s Radio City Music Hall, and a notable run at the London Palladium. His shows sold out in various European cities, setting box office records in multiple countries. Gervais also donated a significant portion of the profits to charities from the Platinum Ticket sales.
Expressing his passion for stand-up comedy, Gervais emphasized its importance in his career evolution. He shared, “Stand-up is my true love now. Initially, I focused on writing and directing, aiming to establish my credibility. I shunned the limelight and preferred to stay behind the scenes. However, as I ventured into stand-up, I realized it was my calling. It allows me the freedom to express myself without filters, making it a liberating experience.”
Although nominated for the best stand-up award at the upcoming Golden Globes, Gervais hinted that he might skip the event, preferring a quiet evening watching Netflix with his cat and girlfriend. Despite his success in television with shows like ‘The Office,’ ‘After Life,’ ‘Extras,’ and ‘Derek,’ Gervais has recently shifted his focus towards stand-up comedy, which he finds most fulfilling.
