Rumors are circulating that King Charles may be planning a visit to the United States for an official royal trip in the coming months. A Trump official has acknowledged the possibility of the monarch being welcomed under less lavish circumstances.
Discussions are reportedly in progress for King Charles to visit the US, though the Palace has not confirmed this yet. Sources close to the royal family suggest that both King Charles and Queen Camilla are preparing to travel to America in the Spring, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the US declaration of independence.
However, it has been disclosed that the royal visit may not entail the same level of grandeur as Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK last year. White House staff secretary Will Scharff mentioned the potential use of portable toilets during the King’s visit, as plans to transform the East Wing into a grand ballroom for hosting foreign dignitaries are underway.
Currently, visiting dignitaries are accommodated in lavish tents on the South Lawn due to space constraints in the East Room. Portable toilets have been installed to facilitate guests during their stay, avoiding the inconvenience of traveling to and from the White House.
Acknowledging the less-than-ideal conditions for hosting important foreign guests at the White House, Mr. Scharff expressed concerns about the image it portrays for the US.
The King’s visit to the US is anticipated to take place in April, marking the first visit by a British monarch since 2007 when Queen Elizabeth II was hosted by former US President George W. Bush. This trip will also be King Charles’ first visit to the United States since his son, Prince Harry, relocated to California in 2020.
President Trump has shown admiration for the British royals, considering them a valuable asset for UK-US diplomatic relations. Following his state visit to the UK, the President praised King Charles as a remarkable individual. The upcoming visit is not expected to involve a meeting between Charles and Prince Harry, as per speculations.
