Keir Starmer expressed gratitude for NHS staff, volunteers, and armed forces personnel working this Christmas. In a Christmas message from No10, the Prime Minister praised those donning uniforms and assisting those in need, emphasizing the dedication of these individuals. He highlighted the essential roles played by NHS staff, emergency services, armed forces members, and volunteers, urging the nation to raise a glass in appreciation.

Additionally, Mr. Starmer acknowledged the challenges faced by many due to the cost of living, affirming that addressing this issue is a top priority for his government. He encouraged reaching out to neighbors, friends, and relatives during the holiday season, emphasizing the importance of support and connection.

In a recent gesture of gratitude, the Prime Minister and his wife hosted 93 public sector workers for an early Christmas dinner at Downing Street. The event aimed to thank these individuals and their families, providing a festive gathering for those who may not be together on Christmas Day.

Among the attendees were notable figures like Zoe Lucas, a staff nurse, and Detective Sergeant Stacey Bailey, recognized for their contributions in healthcare and law enforcement, respectively. Research by the Trades Union Congress revealed that around 1.2 million people, including care workers, nurses, and retail staff, will be working on Christmas Day, underscoring the dedication of essential workers during the holiday season.

Furthermore, the TUC highlighted the significance of the Employment Rights Bill, recently passed into law, as a positive development for workers. The legislation, set to take effect in April 2026, will introduce measures such as day one sick pay rights and a ban on exploitative zero-hours contracts, aiming to provide greater job security and fair treatment for workers across various sectors.

The TUC emphasized that the Employment Rights Act will offer more security and dignity at work, particularly for those on zero-hours contracts, heralding a positive change for workers nationwide.
