“Historic Reforms: Permanent Tax Cuts for Pubs and Restaurants”

Must read

Our local pubs, cafes, and restaurants play a vital role in the heart of our communities nationwide. Supporting the hospitality industry is a top priority for us, which is why we are introducing long-term reforms to the business rates system. In a historic move, pubs, restaurants, bars, and shops will now benefit from a permanent tax rate reduction, unlike the temporary cuts of previous years. Additionally, property values are undergoing an independent reassessment for the first time since the pandemic-induced decline.

Recognizing the concerns of business owners about potential bill increases in April, we have implemented measures to safeguard those facing higher property values. In most cases, bill hikes will be limited to 5% or 15% next year compared to current levels. Although some pubs and hotels have seen significant valuation increases, we are allocating billions in support to mitigate bill rises for these establishments.

Without this support, the pub sector would have faced a substantial 45% surge in total bills next year, but we have managed to reduce this to just 4% through our intervention. Most affected pubs will have their bill increases capped at £800 or 5% to 15% next year, providing a crucial lifeline for these businesses.

Our government is committing £4.3 billion of taxpayer funds to protect businesses from sharp bill spikes next year. This financial relief complements our broader budget initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living and curbing inflation, including a £150 reduction in energy bills for families starting in April.

Lower household bills translate to more disposable income for families to spend locally, supporting our high streets and bolstering our local businesses.
