A woman has admitted guilt in a disturbing child sexual abuse case, following the discovery of disturbing videos at her residence, including instances of bestiality.
In July, law enforcement officials were alerted by the Ohio Crimes Against Children Task Force about potential child exploitation at the residence of Shawna Mayfield, 28, and Justin Mayfield, 37. Upon searching the property, authorities found evidence implicating Mayfield in possession of materials related to child sexual abuse, which she had distributed, produced, and reenacted.
Described as a substantial amount of proof against the couple, the footage revealed Mrs. Mayfield engaging in sexual acts with a four-year-old child, as well as both Mayfields coercing another child into adult activities. Correspondence between the couple indicated their exchange of child abuse videos, while additional videos depicted Mrs. Mayfield performing sexual acts on the family dog, an incident reportedly occurring in May 2025, as stated in an indictment cited by WFMJ.
According to WKBN, Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman mentioned finding videos of the defendant engaging in sexual activities with an animal, particularly a dog. Additionally, during the search, the authorities discovered a marijuana cultivation exceeding legal limits at the premises.
On January 7, Mrs. Mayfield, facing charges including pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, rape, sexual conduct with an animal, and endangering children, changed her plea to guilty. As part of the plea agreement, she agreed to cooperate with law enforcement and testify against her husband, in return for a recommended prison term of 30 years to life. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date.
Mrs. Mayfield, with no prior criminal history as per the Tribune Chronicle, provided a statement on record regarding her testimony. Failure to comply with the cooperation terms will void the plea agreement, potentially leading to conviction on all charges, including those intended to be dismissed under the deal.
Her rape convictions spanned from June 2023 to August 2025. Each rape count she admitted to carries a sentence of 10 years to life, while sexual conduct with an animal is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.
Mr. Mayfield faces multiple rape charges, one count of disseminating harmful material to juveniles, and four counts of endangering children. While prosecutors proposed a 50-year to life sentence in exchange for a plea deal, his attorney is negotiating a different arrangement, aiming for a sentence aligning more closely with his wife’s despite her facing more charges.
Attorney Brendan Keating argued for a sentence more in line with Mrs. Mayfield’s, considering the discrepancy in the number of charges between the co-defendants. Mr. Mayfield’s court appearance is set for January 12, with the trial expected to commence later in the month.
