“Father tries to drown pregnant girlfriend over baby shower photos”

Must read

A soon-to-be mother was forcefully pulled into a pond and almost drowned by her baby’s father after she had shared pictures of them at their baby shower.

The expectant teenager, whose identity remains undisclosed, uploaded photos of herself and Dominic Thomas, the father of her child, on Facebook. Instead of being pleased with the images, Thomas reacted violently.

The 19-year-old father had been in a secret relationship with another woman and became concerned that she would see the photos of him and his pregnant girlfriend online. Unfortunately for him, his fears materialized as his secret partner did come across the pictures. Subsequently, Thomas, hailing from Kansas, USA, sent threatening messages to the mother of his child, indicating his intent to take action against her.

In a chilling manner, he conveyed, “It’s not a threat, it’s a promise,” further stating, “And I won’t care about the consequences.” As a result, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder.

The pregnant girlfriend, aged 17 at the time, responded to the threats by mentioning the potential harm to their child if something happened to her. Thomas callously retorted, denying any repercussions for their child. The young woman then warned that if something happened to her, their child would not survive either.

Law enforcement reported that the couple had been engaged in recent disputes after the girlfriend discovered Thomas’s clandestine involvement with another woman. An incident report disclosed that after a baby shower, photos of the girlfriend and Dominic were shared on Facebook, leading to the other woman learning about their relationship. Subsequently, Thomas started sending menacing messages, including threats of killing the girlfriend.

The threatening messages were transmitted just a day before the violent incident at a pond in Wichita, where Thomas attempted to drown his partner. Before the attack, Thomas suggested going for a walk with the teenager. Following a conversation by the pond, Thomas expressed feelings of loneliness and not wanting to live anymore.

The girlfriend recalled Thomas mentioning consuming an entire pizza, stating it was his final free meal before going to jail. Consequently, a physical altercation occurred, during which Thomas forcibly moved the girlfriend towards the pond, ultimately holding her head underwater as she screamed for mercy.

In a subsequent statement to the police, Thomas admitted to ceasing the assault when the girlfriend mentioned their child, claiming it affected him emotionally. However, he confessed his intention to drown her due to the predicament created by the other woman he was involved with. Thomas, now 24, was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder after a trial lasting four days in 2024.
