Conor Benn has accused his rival Chris Eubank Jr of adopting a ‘victim mentality’ following the publication of a distressing video showing Eubank Jr being treated in a hospital setting. The footage depicted Eubank Jr, aged 36, lying immobile on a bed, connected to medical equipment, and surrounded by healthcare professionals.
The video garnered widespread sympathy from fans, with some suggesting that Eubank Jr should consider retiring after his defeat to Benn in their rematch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last November. However, Benn questioned the motive behind Eubank Jr’s decision to share the video, hinting that it might be a ploy to gain sympathy.
Benn, aged 29, disclosed information about Eubank Jr’s health issues during training and after the fight, indicating that they were not of a serious nature. He emphasized the importance of delving deeper into the reasons behind the video release, highlighting what he perceived as a recurring theme of seeking sympathy and playing the victim.
In an interview with the Mail, Benn drew attention to his own undisclosed struggles, contrasting his approach with Eubank Jr’s public display. He emphasized the resilience required in their sport, likening boxers to modern-day gladiators and underscoring the necessity of perseverance without seeking public sympathy.
Despite the health challenges he has faced, Eubank Jr affirmed his intention not to retire in a social media post. He acknowledged his health issues over the past year and expressed determination to return to full fitness before stepping back into the ring, assuring his loyal supporters of a potential comeback.
