“British Public Urges Labour Leader to Challenge Trump”

Must read

A recent survey conducted by Deltapoll revealed that a significant portion of the British public desires Labour leader Keir Starmer to adopt a more critical stance towards US President Donald Trump. The survey indicated that only 20% of respondents believe Trump’s second term will benefit the UK, with 43% expressing concerns that it will have negative implications.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has maintained a cordial relationship with Trump, including giving him gifts and praise, as well as hosting him for a second state visit. However, the survey findings suggest that 47% of participants feel that Starmer should voice more criticism of Trump publicly.

In response to mounting pressure, Starmer has faced calls to confront Trump on various issues, such as Trump’s threats to sue the BBC and potential support for far-right European candidates. During a recent Prime Minister’s Questions session, Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey urged Starmer to condemn any attempts by Trump to interfere with British democracy.

The survey, which polled 1,997 British adults online, was conducted from December 16th to December 18th, 2025, and the data was adjusted to reflect the overall British adult population.
