Father of Teenage Girl in France Sentenced for Attempting Virginity Test

Must read

A couple faced legal action for attempting to subject their 15-year-old daughter to a virginity test after discovering she had a boyfriend. The girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, testified that her father had physically assaulted her and insisted on the test in March 2025.

In the court proceedings, the girl’s mother received a suspended three-month prison sentence for encouraging the minor to undergo the examination. The father, a professional boxer, faced charges for compelling the test and neglecting his parental duties, leading to a six-month suspended sentence and probation.

The father defended his actions, claiming he had taken his daughter for the test to ensure her well-being, emphasizing it was a routine medical procedure. The mother supported his actions, attributing his behavior to frustration over their daughter’s secretive behavior.

The prosecutor highlighted that the mere intention to conduct a virginity test was unlawful, emphasizing that such actions did not constitute acceptable parental discipline. When informed of the test, the teenager reportedly suffered a panic attack and fainted.

Virginity tests are illegal in France, and the medical professional contacted by the parents declined to perform the procedure. French President Emmanuel Macron strongly denounced virginity tests in 2020, labeling them as part of unacceptable practices.

The World Health Organization condemned virginity testing as scientifically unfounded, a violation of human rights, and potentially harmful. French medical experts criticized the practice as outdated and discriminatory, urging public disapproval of the persistence of virginity requirements.
