“Owner’s Father Accepts Responsibility for Fatal Swiss Bar Fire”

Must read

The father of the owner of the Swiss bar where 40 individuals perished in a New Year’s fire has acknowledged that his son holds accountability for the tragic incident. Jean Moretti, the father of Jacques Moretti, made this statement as his son and daughter-in-law faced legal action for charges including manslaughter by negligence, bodily harm by negligence, and arson by negligence.

Mr. Moretti Sr. emphasized that his son bears responsibility as the owner of the establishment, but the determination of guilt is yet to be established. He expressed readiness to cooperate with the justice system and affirmed their commitment to facing the consequences. Describing his son as a dedicated worker deeply impacted by the fire, Jean mentioned that their residence is now under police protection due to escalating public outrage over the calamity, which also caused injuries to 116 individuals.

Acknowledging the profound sorrow caused by the incident, Jacques’ wife, Jessica, expressed her condolences and apologized for the tragedy that occurred at their bar, Le Constellation, in Crans-Montana. The couple had earlier expressed devastation and pledged full cooperation with the investigation, expressing solidarity with the victims and their families.

The fire investigation indicates that the blaze likely originated in the bar’s basement due to champagne bottles with attached party sparklers igniting sound insulation foam on the ceiling. Authorities are scrutinizing the accountability of both the bar proprietors and officials, acknowledging the absence of fire safety inspections since 2019. The casualties and injured individuals, representing 19 nationalities, continue to receive medical care, with 83 victims still hospitalized.

During a national day of mourning, young survivors delivered poignant speeches at a memorial service, evoking emotions from attendees, including French President Emmanuel Macron. Marie Albrecht, Aline Morisoli, and Solal Heimendinger shared their harrowing experiences, emphasizing the need for resilience and unity in the face of adversity.

The solemn event concluded with a minute of silence in memory of the victims, while church bells tolled across Switzerland. Political figures expressed condolences and solidarity with the bereaved families, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to honoring the lives lost in the tragic incident.
