The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have issued a combined statement regarding the recent car accident involving British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The incident, which occurred on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, resulted in Joshua sustaining minor injuries while tragically claiming the lives of two individuals.
In response, both state governments expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and affirmed that Joshua and another passenger were promptly transferred to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments confirmed their stable condition with no immediate need for emergency intervention.
A dedicated medical team is overseeing their care, ensuring continuous monitoring. Joshua, who is conscious and in contact with his family, is receiving appropriate medical attention. The governments are closely monitoring the situation to guarantee the individuals receive optimal medical support and have initiated investigations into the accident’s circumstances.
Acknowledging public concern, the statement requested privacy for Joshua and his family during this challenging time. The crash involved a black Lexus Jeep driven by Joshua colliding with a stationary lorry on the side of the expressway. According to preliminary findings from the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria, the accident involved two vehicles and five adult males, resulting in two fatalities, one injury, and two unharmed individuals. The injured party received medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue for further processing.
Initial investigations suggest that the Lexus Jeep, allegedly exceeding the speed limit, lost control during an overtaking maneuver and collided with the parked truck.
